Angelina Spicer
Comedian, influencer, and 'accidental activist' Angelina Spicer is also a Howard University graduate, a wife and mother. The accidental activism came after a 10 day stay at Las Encinas Psych facility for treatment of postpartum depression. Spicer realized that through comedy she could bring some levity and humor to a taboo topic that affects three in five Black women.
In her work as a maternal mental health advocate Spicer helped changed legislation in CA working alongside lawmakers in Sacramento to support new moms. In 2018 Governor Brown signed sweeping legislation that she worked on to provide screenings for women during and after pregnancy.
Spicer is currently working with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to use the bills we helped pass in CA as a blueprint across the country.
